What Is Broadband?
Broadband is often defined as High Speed Internet - up to 20 times faster than dial up connections allowing you to receive the information you have requested quicker. This means that with broadband you will be able to download websites much faster, receive large email files and watch movie clips while on the Internet.
At Connect, broadband is delivered in two ways, Broadband ADSL or Broadband Wireless. There is no difference in the quality of service in which each provides, the only factor which determines what service you get, is the location of where the service is required.
What can Broadband do for you?
- Faster speeds – With better speeds, you can download web pages and send and receive emails much quicker. You can also listen to music, watch videos online or even videoconference with friends or business partners.
- Frees up your phone line - Broadband shares your phone line between voice and data calls. This means that you can still make or receive calls even when you are online.
- No extra call charges – No more dial up fees. With broadband all you pay is your fixed monthly fee which covers all access to the Internet.
- You can share the connection - With the right equipment (a wireless unit) you can share your Broadband connection so you all get high-speed access at the same time!
- It's always on - Broadband Wireless allows you to be permanently connected 24 hours a day, seven days a week and you don't need to dial up a connection every time you want to surf the web or send emails.
What are my options?
Service Option
Connect Fiji offers two methods of delivery for broadband, ADSL and Wireless. However, we decide which service will best work for you.
- ADSL – Connect ADSL uses normal phone lines to deliver broadband Internet at super fast speeds. Apart from the high speed router or modem that you have in your home, all the technology of ADSL is housed at your local telephone exchange. With ADSL you can still make calls whilst on the internet, also there are no call costs and you don't need to disconnect as you are online whenever your computers is on.
- Wireless - Broadband Wireless is a broadband connection using wireless or radio technology. Wireless broadband does not use or tie up phone lines, the wireless unit is mounted to the outside of your premises and operates on line of sight within 7km from base stations. Connects team of professionals take care of all technical installations and set up.

The other factor to consider is the type of business you’re in. If your business is one that receives and sends large files on a regular basis then it would be more productive and cost effective for you to choose a package which allows you more data capacity.

Other Broadband Questions
Why does my broadband speed vary?
The speed of your plan eg. 256k, 1 or 2 Mbps is the maximum speed of your connection.
Your connection speed can vary from time to time for a number of reasons:
- Internet environment - downloading from a Fiji site may be faster than downloading from an overseas site.
- Internet traffic - busy times will mean slower speeds as more people access the internet.
- Your computer - RAM availability and your computer's set up and operating system will also affect speed.
- Modems - different modems and set-ups can affect connection speed.
- Distance from your local telephone exchange - the further away you are from the exchange the slower the connection speed.
